On June 18, 2025, the second webinar of the training cycle organized by the ECOCredGT project, entitled: “Technical fundamentals of digital credentials”, was successfully held. This day was led by Galileo University, and brought together professionals from education, technology and business, interested in understanding the technical foundations that enable the development of reliable digital certification systems.
The session offered a clear perspective on the technical components that give life to a digital credential: its structure, the standards that support it, the interoperable formats and the verification mechanisms that guarantee its validity. Beyond theory, emphasis was placed on the need to create ecosystems of trust that ensure that learning can be recognized, shared and understood over time and in different contexts.

Key learning with academic and professional impact.
One of the main contributions of this meeting was to show that digital credentials are not only a technological tool, but a structured response to the current challenges of education and employment. Their correct implementation allows recognizing skills acquired in formal and informal environments, strengthening employability and facilitating academic and professional mobility, especially in Latin America.

During the webinar essential topics were addressed such as:
- The technical operation of digital credentials and their structured design.
- The use of Open Badges, JSON-LD and other open standards.
- The role of technology platforms in the issuance and validation of credentials.
- The importance of interoperability in connecting institutions, students and employers.
- The challenges universities face in incorporating these technologies in an ethical, scalable and sustainable manner.

From an institutional perspective, the content of this webinar allows universities and training centers to understand the necessary elements to implement digital credential systems according to international frameworks. For the business sector, it opens the possibility of accessing better documented professional profiles, with verifiable competencies and aligned to the real needs of the market.
Expert voices with international vision
The event was attended by three European specialists who, from their experience, provided a comprehensive and applied perspective:

Carina Kern: Communicator and researcher in educational technologies. She explained how the clear design of a credential is fundamental for its interpretation by institutions and employers.

Alexander Nussbaumer: Computer engineer and developer of educational systems. He shared in detail the technical aspects that support the authenticity, traceability and efficiency of digital credentials.
This second training session reaffirms the ECOCredGT project’s commitment to the development of technical and strategic capacities that contribute to the transformation of education systems in the region.
