First ECOCredGT Webinar: A Strategic Introduction to Digital Credentials

Today, higher education institutions face the challenge of adapting their certification systems to a constantly changing world of work and academia. In this context, digital credentials emerge as key tools to represent skills, knowledge and achievements in a more flexible, verifiable and aligned way with the real needs of the 21st century.

On June 11, 2025, ECOCredGT project partners held the inaugural webinar of the training cycle, entitled “Introduction to Digital Credentials in Education”. This space marked the beginning of a series of events designed to strengthen institutional capacities in the design, issuance and use of interoperable digital credentials in Latin America.

A look into the future of academic certification

During the day, an overview was given on the evolution of digital credentials, from the first badges used to represent specific achievements, to current models supported by international standards such as the European Learning Model (ELM). The strategic role of micro-credentials as tools to foster lifelong learning and improve employability was also addressed.

The event was attended by two leading experts from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, who shared their experience in the implementation of frameworks and technologies for digital certification:
